While Amazon has yet to make a formal announcement, emails sent to Echo users confirm the update. Devices like the 4th-gen Echo Dot, Echo Show 10, and Show 15, which previously supported local processing, will no longer offer this capability.

For those who enabled the “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” setting, the change means losing the ability to keep voice data entirely on their devices. Amazon has stated that if users take no action, their settings will automatically update to “Don’t save recordings.” However, this comes with a catch: opting out of saving recordings will disable key features like Voice ID, which allows Alexa to recognize individual users and provide personalized responses.

Amazon’s help page reveals that while voice recordings stayed on-device, text transcripts of requests were still sent to the cloud and stored indefinitely unless manually deleted.
