Apple is ushering in a new era of streaming by announcing that its Apple TV app, along with Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass, is now arriving on Android devices. This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone as Apple embraces a TV-first approach that reaches beyond its native ecosystem to include phones, tablets, and even foldable devices. For the first time, Google customers on both living room and mobile platforms can subscribe to Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass directly through Google Play billing.

Previously, users on Google TV needed an existing Apple TV+ account to access the service. Now, Android users can create an Apple account right on their device and subscribe seamlessly—just as they would on an Apple device—with the subscription pricing remaining steady at $9.99 per month. This development is especially significant in non-U.S. markets where Android devices are more prevalent, enabling Apple to extend its premium streaming content to a broader audience.

The revamped Apple TV app offers a host of popular features familiar to Apple users. With capabilities like offline downloads, saved watchlists, and a “continue watching” feature that syncs viewing history across devices, the app ensures a consistent and enjoyable experience. While Android users can easily see when new episodes or seasons drop, the app is still in the process of rolling out native notifications for real-time updates. Additionally, live sports enthusiasts won’t miss a beat, as Friday Night Baseball’s live broadcasts are also available on Android.

For soccer fans, MLS Season Pass is accessible as an optional add-on for $12.99 per month or $79 per season. Covering all 30 MLS clubs starting from the weekend of February 22, the service offers personalized recommendations and a dedicated “supporters” section, allowing fans to stay closely connected with their favorite teams.

One notable difference between the Android and Apple versions is that Android users will not have access to the in-app Store, where movies and shows can be rented or purchased. Instead, the app focuses on streaming and subscription content, streamlined with Android’s Material Design principles and adaptive layouts to cater to various screen sizes—from phones and tablets to foldables.

This expansion comes five years after Apple TV+ made its global debut as Apple’s first foray into original streaming content. Known for its high-quality offerings, Apple TV+ features hit shows like “Severance,” “Slow Horses,” “The Morning Show,” and award-winning originals such as “CODA” and “Ted Lasso.” With accolades including an Academy Award for Best Picture and multiple Emmy nominations and wins, Apple TV+ continues to build a reputation for excellence in drama, sci-fi, and beyond.

Now available to Google Play users starting Wednesday, the Android version of the Apple TV app underscores Apple’s commitment to reaching diverse audiences and adapting to evolving viewing habits. As Apple continues to refine its streaming service with innovative features and a rich library of exclusive content, this expansion not only reinforces its position in the competitive streaming landscape but also paves the way for new growth opportunities across global markets.
