Elon Musk Refutes Allegations of Drug Use, Asserts Clean Drug Tests for Three Years Following Wall Street Journal Report.
In response to a recent Wall Street Journal article raising concerns about his substance use, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, firmly denied any illegal drug consumption on Sunday. He stated that over the last three years, random drug tests have consistently shown “not even trace quantities” of drugs or alcohol in his system. The Wall Street Journal’s Saturday report suggested that Musk’s alleged drug use has been a topic of concern among Tesla and SpaceX executives. It was mentioned that Tesla board members have discreetly discussed Musk’s substance use over the years and have even reached out to his brother, Kimbal Musk, expressing their worries.
The report also claims that Musk has partaken in recreational drug use, including ketamine, with both his brother Kimbal, who serves on the boards of Tesla and SpaceX, and SpaceX board member Steve Jurvetson, alongside other unspecified illegal substances. Additionally, the article noted that former Tesla director Linda Johnson Rice decided to leave the company in 2019, troubled by Musk’s drug use and unpredictable conduct. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Musk, aged 52, conveyed, “After that one puff with Rogan, I agreed, at NASA’s request, to do three years of random drug testing. Not even trace quantities were found of any drugs or alcohol.” Bloomberg News reported that Musk did not provide a comment on their request.
SpaceX, under Musk’s leadership, remains the sole American entity authorized to ferry NASA astronauts to the International Space Station. Moreover, the Pentagon has recently increased its procurement of launches from the privately-owned firm, including a contract in June for SpaceX’s Starlink satellite communications to assist the Ukrainian military.
