Instagram might soon introduce a feature allowing users to share their currently playing Spotify tracks in real-time with their followers, according to a tip from well-known reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. This feature, referred to as “Share from Spotify,” could work through Instagram Notes—short text updates visible in direct messages (DMs). While Instagram already lets users share 30-second clips of songs in Stories or Notes, the current functionality doesn’t support real-time sharing, a gap that this new feature aims to fill.
Paluzzi shared details about this potential feature in a post on Threads, where he suggested that users could continuously share what they’re listening to on Spotify in real-time. A leaked screenshot supports this claim, showing a banner with the message, “You can stop sharing anytime.” Currently, Instagram users can share songs via Notes, but they have to manually search for tracks from Instagram’s music library, and the shared clip is limited to 30 seconds. The new feature would allow users to link their Spotify accounts to Instagram, making it easier to share any song from Spotify’s extensive catalog, automatically reflecting what they’re currently playing.
This integration between Instagram and Spotify could go beyond simple track sharing. Technologist Chris Messina pointed out that a new “SpotifyiOS.framework” was added to Instagram, likely around the time of the release of Instagram version 338.0 on iOS. This suggests that deeper, more music-oriented features could be on the horizon for Instagram, leveraging Spotify’s platform to enhance user experience.
In addition to this potential feature, Instagram recently launched a “Song on Profile” feature in collaboration with US singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter. This allows users to add a song to their profile that best reflects their mood or personality. Unlike the new Spotify integration, the song on the profile doesn’t autoplay but can be played by tapping on the music icon. Carpenter’s song “Taste” was among the first to be featured using this new option.
As Instagram continues to evolve and integrate more music-related features, this potential real-time sharing from Spotify could significantly enhance how users express their musical tastes and connect with others on the platform. It remains to be seen how this feature will be received and whether it will become a staple for music lovers on Instagram.
