Nvidia is bringing the power of the data center to the desktop with the official launch of the DGX Spark, its tiniest AI supercomputer. Hitting the market today, the DGX Spark is designed to give smaller businesses and individual developers access to a powerful AI computing system without needing to rent expensive cloud services or buy full-scale AI servers.

The compact system is a powerhouse, packing Nvidia’s latest GB10 Grace Blackwell superchip, ConnectX-7 networking capabilities, and its full AI software stack. It’s part of a new class of computers, rolled out with partners like ASUS and Dell, aimed at enabling local AI model development.

In a statement, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang drew a direct line from this launch to the dawn of the current AI boom. “In 2016, we built DGX-1 to give AI researchers their own supercomputer. I hand-delivered the first system to Elon [Musk] at a small startup called OpenAI — and from it came ChatGPT, kickstarting the AI revolution,” Huang said. “With DGX Spark, we return to that mission — placing an AI computer in the hands of every developer to ignite the next wave of breakthroughs.”

Just as he did with the original, Huang also hand-delivered one of the first Spark systems to Musk.

However, don’t expect to fire up your favorite video games on this machine. The DGX Spark is a specialized tool built for a single purpose: building and running AI models. It runs on Nvidia’s own Linux-based DGX OS and is not intended for general consumer use. For even more demanding tasks, users can connect two Spark systems together to work on larger AI models with up to 405 billion parameters.

The DGX Spark complements Nvidia’s broader strategy, allowing developers to prototype AI models on a local machine before deploying them on a larger scale, further solidifying the company’s dominant position in the AI hardware and software ecosystem.
