Google has begun rolling out notable improvements to Gemini Live on Android, its AI-powered assistant interface that leverages Project Astra capabilities. The update brings better video resolution, subtle visual changes, and a tweak to the user interface that may surprise those used to quick gestures.
One of the biggest updates addresses a frustrating issue some users have faced: blurry video quality during Gemini Live interactions. Google confirmed this week that it has deployed a fix to improve camera resolution, enhancing the visual fidelity of the AI’s real-time processing. While the company didn’t dive into technical specifics, users can now expect clearer, sharper visuals that should improve the overall experience—especially when relying on Gemini Live for object recognition, scene understanding, or general video-based interaction.
Meanwhile, a small but noticeable change has arrived in the form of gesture removal. The familiar left-swipe gesture that quickly launched Gemini Live from the homescreen or inside chats is now gone. While it was a convenient shortcut, some users found it too easy to trigger by accident. The more deliberate Live button in the bottom-right corner of the Gemini app still provides access and is likely now the primary method for launching the feature.

There’s also been a color tweak to the Gemini Live waveform. Users on the beta channel will notice that the formerly purple hues have been replaced with a more vibrant blue, which now aligns with Gemini’s updated branding and homepage greeting. The refreshed color scheme helps unify the app’s look with Google’s evolving design language, but this change hasn’t rolled out to the stable channel just yet.
These updates reflect Google’s continued refinement of its AI assistant on Android, aiming to make Gemini Live more functional, visually cohesive, and user-friendly. As Google deepens the integration of Project Astra and AI-driven features across its ecosystem, Android users can expect more such upgrades in the months ahead.
