At the China Robotics Network Annual Conference in Shanghai, Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) revealed its latest innovation in robotics: GoMate, a third-generation embodied intelligent humanoid robot. This ‘smart tool’, as described by GAC, integrates both legs and wheels, providing a unique mobility solution that promises to redefine the capabilities of service robots.
GoMate boasts an impressive 38 degrees of freedom, allowing it to switch effortlessly between two-wheel and four-wheel modes. This adaptability enhances its environmental navigation skills, making it suitable for various complex terrains and scenarios.
Dr. Zhang Aimin of CAG emphasized the robot’s design philosophy, stating that GoMate is crafted for the future of human life, with applications spanning multiple sectors:
- Security: Monitoring and patrolling.
- Healthcare: Assisting in patient care or rehabilitation.
- Automotive: Enhancing production lines with precision and efficiency.

GAC plans to initially test GoMate in their auto production lines and industrial parks, aiming for small-scale production by 2026. This move into robotics by GAC not only diversifies their portfolio but also places them in direct competition with other global tech players like Tesla, whose Optimus robots are similarly designed for a range of tasks from industrial to domestic duties.
