Meta is preparing to launch its most advanced smart glasses yet, and new leaks suggest they’ll include a built-in display and a cutting-edge wristband controller. Following the recent unveiling of the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, data miner Luna has uncovered images and firmware details pointing to an entirely new product line, likely codenamed Meta Celeste. These new glasses appear to be part of Meta’s push into premium wearable AR tech and may be nearing public release.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported on Meta’s dual-device strategy: a sportier model styled by Oakley, which has already launched, and a high-end unit internally known as Hypernova. This second pair is reportedly equipped with a built-in display and a sophisticated wrist-worn controller that uses electromyography (EMG) to detect hand gestures like pinches and rotations. Such input methods could provide more precise and natural interaction with augmented reality content, surpassing traditional touch or voice-based systems.
The wrist controller, which leaked images identify as Ceres, looks similar to the one used in Meta’s Orion AR prototype and is expected to allow seamless control over the user interface. Leaked tutorials suggest that users will be able to manipulate digital objects and menus in mid-air using subtle hand movements, bringing a more immersive and intuitive experience to the glasses.
Meta seems to be moving away from its previous co-branding approach with companies like Ray-Ban and Oakley for this particular model. The name ‘Celeste’ does not appear linked to any known eyewear brand, indicating that Meta may be marketing this as a fully in-house premium product. The leaked assets include product images, controller diagrams, and even a tutorial for a game called Hypertrail—a Galaga-style shooter that reportedly uses the user’s location to add dynamic gameplay elements.
If pricing rumors are accurate, Meta Celeste could retail between $1,000 and $1,400, positioning it firmly in the premium AR wearable category. Given the timing of the leaks and the apparent polish of the firmware tutorials, it’s likely the company is entering the final stages before launch. This would mark Meta’s boldest move yet in smart glasses, aiming to combine functionality, fashion, and interactivity in a single device.
